COVID-19 – Michigan "Stay at Home" Executive Order Q & A

We want our clients to be assured that we are continuing to work through the mandatory shut down ordered by Governor Whitmer’s "Stay at Home" executive order. Our office is largely paperless and our employees are able to work virtually anywhere. Following are questions and answers that we hope will be helpful.

Q: Are you taking new long-term disability, life insurance and employee benefit issues or claims cases during the "Stay at Home" order?
A: We would love to hear from you and assess your long-term disability, life insurance or employee benefit issue or claim to help put your mind at ease. Please complete the form on our contact page and we will get back with you promptly to schedule a complimentary, remote consultation.

Q: Are you taking new long-term disability law, life insurance and employee benefit issues or claims cases during the "Stay at Home" order?
A: We would love to hear from you and assess your long-term disability claim to help put your mind at ease. Please complete the form on our contact page and we will get back with you promptly to schedule a complimentary, remote consultation.

Q: What is the "Stay at Home" order issued by Governor Whitmer?
A: Pursuant to Executive Order 2020-2021, released by Governor Whitmer on March 23, 2020, the State of Michigan is under a "Stay at Home" order. The “Stay at Home order”, also known as "shelter in place", is intended to prevent the spread of coronavirus and individuals are generally required to stay in their place of residence until April 13, 2020, unless they are partaking in an outdoor activity, obtaining essential supplies like groceries, caring for a family member, or reporting to work at an exempt business. EO 2020-2021 broadly exempts health and human services, grocery stores, certain manufacturers, gas stations and other essential businesses. EO 2020-2021 does not affect businesses with employees that are working exclusively from home.

Q: Will the "Stay at Home" order affect the work you do for my employee benefit payments?
A: Essential employees will be in the Troy Haney Law office as necessary to allow work to continue remotely and also to make sure that the employee benefits that our clients deserve continue to be paid in a timely fashion. We are committed to doing everything within our power to minimize the disruption in our clients' lives and make sure that the very best representation possible is uniformly provided to each and every one of our clients through this difficult time and beyond.

Q: How should I reach your office during the Stay at Home period?
A: During the "Stay at Home" period, the best way to communicate with us will be through email although, when necessary, we can certainly host telephone calls to best meet our clients' needs.

Q: Are you in full compliance with Governor Whitmer’s executive order?
A: Rest assured that the Haney Law Firm is in full compliance with Governor Whitmer's thoughtful and hopefully effective Executive Order. Through our long-standing practice of using technology and innovation to better serve our clients, we will be able to remain "up and running" throughout the shutdown.
